Mailed From the Murder Castle!

“Masterful Sleuthing” – NYT Bestselling author Steve Hodel

I first started thinking of doing an HH Holmes book over a decade ago, when the research I did to run better Holmes tours showed me just how much good data was out there, unexamined and untouched. At the time, I was planning to collaborate on one with another person from the tour company. Once, I suggested a cool promo would be to have books “Mailed from the Murder Castle” – sent out from the Englewood Post Office that occupies part of the site where the “castle” stood.

“Are you crazy?” he asked me. “You’ll get killed down there!”

Since then I’ve been at that post office dozens of times, and the worst thing that’s ever happened to me is that one time we got mooned. There’s a Whole Foods right near the post office now!

I normally only sell copies of my own books at events, but now thatĀ HH HOLMES: THE TRUE HISTORY OF THE WHITE CITY DEVIL is out, I still think it’d be a neat way to send out copies! So, in a rare move for me, I will be offering some copies to be bought directly from me – they’ll be shipped out, signed (and personalized if you wish), and mailed out of the Englewood Post Office on 63rd Street, for which the remains of the “Holmes Castle” were razed in the late 1930s. Now, most of the castle would have been in the grassy knollĀ next to the post office, and only about four feet of the current building overlaps with the footprint, but, hey, why nitpick?

I’ll add “mailed from the murder castle” to the signatures. Click below to order yours now; copies are just the regular cover price of 26.99, postage paid. Copies should be mailed out weekly, but allow 2-3 weeks for delivery.
